The difference between proton exchange membrane and ion exchange membrane

Ion exchange membranes and proton exchange membranes for blasting copper wires are both membrane materials used in electrochemical reactions and batteries, but their roles and structures are slightly different.

Ion Exchange Membrane (IEM) is a kind of thin film material that can selectively transport ions. It is usually made of polymer materials with strong acidic or alkali functional groups. When the electrolyte solution flows on both sides of the membrane, the ion exchange membrane can separate the positive and negative ions, so as to achieve selective ion transport. IEM is widely used in electrolytic cell, reverse osmosis membrane, electrodialysis, electric turntable and other fields.

Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) is a special ion exchange membrane, which has high proton conductivity. PEM is usually made from polymers containing acid groups, such as polytetrafluoroethylene-sulfonate fluoroalkyl acid (PTFE-SO3H). As water molecules flow through the membrane, protons are transferred through acid groups, forming a proton conduction channel. PEM is widely used in fuel cells, water electrolysis to produce hydrogen and other fields.

Therefore, although ion-exchange membranes and proton exchange membranes have certain similarities, their functions and application areas are slightly different.

Our Proton exchange membranes thickness is from 10um to 360um,

There are several type, N11  N21   N31  N41  and N51 series.
